Pilgrim, your comment makes me indeed a bit helpless. For me he is a witty, well educated and gentle friend and gentleman, he has no blog and makes no comments, but I’m most thankful for the continued conversation we have (e.g. http://myweb.dal.ca/waue/Trans/Hesse-ImNebel.html#Second), I can’t see what makes you see him as obnoxious.

P.S. I'm not a priest, but I've studied theology a lot of years ago.

Anyway, my plan is to become a Jesuite one day, even only as a laicist member.

When I heard the Kreisler song, I wondered if he had borrowed the idea from Tom Lehrer. But listening again to Tom Lehrer's I am reminded how poorly the line "poisoning the pigeons in the park" fits with the meter of the rest of the song. So it seems more likely the Tom borrowed the idea from Kreisler and couldn't come up with a way to write a lyric that scanned properly.

Tom Lehrer was a mathematics professor and his songs were new in the 1950's. If you have a few moments, you might want to check out a few more. I'm sure you can find plenty of links from the video that you embedded.

Sorry John I’ve just seen I haven’t replied (and I don’t like people who don’t answer, except it’s a message), Tom Lehrer was completely unknown to me, but seems he has still fans, some people (like you) say I should look at his songs, so I will do. And what an old controversy, I guess the best should get the truth, and since I don’t really know both I’m completely unprejudiced.
